Action Alert!
Some issues should always be a part of what the Church is doing in America, but with laws and courts changing America's moral landscape and constitutional understanding almost daily, some issues require an immediate call for action by Christians. On this page we try to keep abreast of imminent action by the government or other groups that could have an adverse effect on our rights and beliefs as Christians. At the bottom of the page, you will find contact information that will help you make your voice heard in Washington, D.C., (and other places as necessary). Senate Health Care Bill: The Senate version of health care reform has an economically oppressive price tag and many other flaws. However, we must battle to have protection against taxpayer-funded abortion included in whatever bill finally emerges. The Senate version (H.R. 3590) has no such provision currently, unlike the House bill in which the Stupak Amendment was included before passage. Please contact your senators to force inclusion of pro-life language. To see a comparison between the Stupak Amendment and Senate provisions on abortion, click this link to the Family Research Council. Employment Non-Discrimination Act: Rep. Barney Frank has promised to put the Employment Non-Discrimination Act on the fast track in the House. Please contact Frank and your representatives to voice your opposition to this bill that could ultimately interfer with the rights of Christian business owners, even churches and daycares. To download a copy of this bill (HR 3017), click this link. Broadcasters Freedom Act: The Media Research Center is launching an all-out campaign to force a vote in Congress on the Broadcasters Freedom Act, which if passed would head off any attempts by liberals in Congress or the Federal Communications Commission to impose Fairness Doctrine type censorship on conservative and religious radio. To sign the petition, click this link to MRC Action. We also suggest that you contact Congressional leadership and your representatives in Congress to push for a vote on the Broadcasters Freedom Act. To download a sample letter in text format that you can use to model your own letters supporting the Broadcasters Freedom Act and opposing government control and censorship of conservative and Christian broadcasting, click this link. You can also use this as in an email or extract the talking points for a telephone call. United States Legislative Contacts
