And God said, Let us make man in our image after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:26-27 - KJV)
God was nearing the end of this unique week of creative activity and saved His ultimate creation until this time during Day Six. Everything necessary for Earth to be habitable by newly-created plant and animal life was then in place and readied for the appearance of human life, God’s crowning work in His entire creative process.
Note that God said, “Let us make man in our image after our likeness….” The plurality of the pronouns reflects on the
Trinitarian nature of God, that of His existence as One Being, yet having three personages -- God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. God’s manifestation as a Trinity is further amplified and documented throughout the Holy Bible.1
The first humans were created in God’s image and likeness. Using the perfect template of His character, God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, with a moral and natural likeness of Himself. The natural likenesses of emotions, will, and intellect remain, but the moral likeness of sinless perfection vanished with the first sin committed by Adam and Eve.
In fact, Romans 8:20 provides evidence that because of sin, the whole creation was subjected to futility, thereby resulting in its departure from the original design. Romans 8:21-22 gives us a dire picture of the consequences of sin by describing the creation existing under the bondage of corruption from the onset of sin up to the present time. This bondage resulted in the creation’s groaning and travailing in pain even until now.
This bondage under which the creation is held speaks of the principle of decay that causes all things to wind down, deteriorate, and become less organized with time. All of us can relate personal experiences of how the fallen creation has affected us in negative ways. Our possessions rust, wear out, break, and eventually are discarded where further deterioration occurs.
Living systems also age, ultimately sickening and dying because of this principle. This unavoidable and progressive decay of both living and non-living systems binds everything in an iron grip, one from which nothing can completely free itself.
The principle of decay also speaks clearly of the impossibility of accidental and naturalistic processes causing sterile matter to assimilate itself upward in order and complexity to form living, replicating life-forms. This provides a serious problem for the evolutionist, a problem that defies any credible solution by naturalistic means.
Evolutionists have tried in many ways to “create” life in ongoing laboratory experiments, and they are limited to working with already created matter. No scientist can ever create life from non-living elements, and neither can he create anything from nothing as God is able to do! And because this principle of decay is absolutely unbreakable and universally existing, we can safely say that any form of life could have only had its origin from the Creator of the heavens and the Earth, God Himself, who created everything by speaking it into being.
Even knowing the basic principles of solid science that completely rule out the possibility of sterile water and rocks turning into the complex life-forms called human beings, proponents of evolution continue in their vain efforts trying to explain how this could have happened. And not only is this religious and non-scientific “theory” of evolutionism the only one allowed and even mandated to be taught in publicly supported schools and colleges, scientific data that clearly support another view of origins are disparaged and disallowed.
This is scientific discrimination at its lowest ebb as true science demands that all scientific data are open for discussion. But actual scientific findings seem to get in the way of evolutionary beliefs and are purposely hidden from view.
Because of the ongoing, unyielding adherence to evolutionary doctrine promoted by all government-supported halls of learning, many in the general populace have come to accept evolutionism either unwittingly or dogmatically. That indoctrination has precipitated a prevalent mindset that modern humans have only been around for a relatively short period of undefined time on the evolutionary timescale.
This teaching demands that present-day humans are the product of primordial ooze that somehow changed over millions of years to produce the primitive ancestors that ultimately led to the full emergence of true humans from unknown evolutionary processes.
This doctrine has not only been “confirmed” in standard scientific reasoning, but has even found a contrived niche by which liberal theological scholars erroneously insert millions of years into the short, biblical timescale. To false teachers and fallible scholars, this supposedly provides “evidence” in support of evolutionism rather than by a creative act of God over a special week as recorded in Scripture. To them, the flexible and changeable ideas and words of scientists and naturalists have more authority than the Word of God.
God is Creator and was obviously present at the creation of everything. He even had a Book written to let us know about the origin of the Earth and universe and when everything came into existence. Although God’s Word is discounted as myth and superstition by humanists, atheists, naturalistic scientists, and even liberal Christians, the best scientific research supports exactly what the Bible states.
Knowing that the Bible is truthful in all things is an encouragement to those who love the Lord and His written Word. We can have full confidence that whether addressing theological matters, salvation, relationships, or scientific issues, the Bible is completely trustworthy in any subject it covers.
