Call to the ChurchSeven Steps to Restoring America’s Christian HeritageBy Phil J. Baker, CEO Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, for the Lord has spoken. Give glory to the Lord your God before He causes darkness and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it dense darkness. But if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for your pride. Although these words from Jeremiah 13:15-17 were for Judah in the late 600s BC, their ominous meaning reverberates in America today, Each week -- each day even -- we learn that yet another axe has been laid to America's Christian roots by political leaders and wayward judges determined to sink all of America's resources and hopes in the black hole of secular humanism. Of course, the only way to fully accomplish this is to silence the Church. Unfortunately, many Christians themselves have remained silent citizens far too long, and now judges, politicians, and liberal media are trying to finish the job with unconstitutional court rulings, legislation and pure public intimidation. It's a big job that we face, but we must gather together and become a unified body dedicated to serving God in the congregations, in the market place, and in civic arenas. For this to happen, I believe the following seven actions must take place within the Church. These principles are part of every message I give to local congregations when I speak. 1. Believe. Believe that God can do what we cannot. Believe that ultimately, we have our chariots and our horses, but the battle belongs to God. Believe that, though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, because the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds. (Please read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.) 2. Love the lost. There is no special category of sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). We have to love and instruct people out of their sinful lifestyles and into the family of God through personal evangelism. Developing an active, vibrant plan for evanglism is essential to restoring the rightful place of Christianity in America, but remember, it is also our primary mission in Christ. 3. Address the building blocks of society. We as individuals are the building blocks: first of the family, then of the Church, then of the community, then of the nation. Remember what God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Humbling yourself, repenting, praying, and seeking God are all individual acts of obedience, even if they are done in a congregational setting. 4. Become informed about the Bible, American history, church history, and current events. * Knowing what God says about the issues of life, family, government, culture and the church will allow you to see the world –- and our nation –- as he sees it. * A knowledge of American history will sharpen your ability to challenge secular humanists on the issue of this nation’s Christian heritage and the true meaning of religious liberty. * A knowledge of church history will equip you to debate how the church started, how it grew and how it operates in the world today. * Keeping up with current events is a necessity. Litigation and legislation that threaten the moral climate of our country and our Christian rights are being fought in every state in the Union as well as our nation's capital. We are in a war for the heart of our country, and we must become informed. 5. Get involved. Knowledge is good. It is a weapon in our warfare, but if we never face the enemy it is worthless. In this nation, party loyalty and self-interests have taken over the political process. Every individual will one day stand before God and give answer to the causes and the people for which they cast their votes in their lifetimes. Vote your conscience not your pocketbook or political party. Write letters, send emails, make phone calls and send faxes to decision makers. 6. Form a task force in your church to keep abreast of the four areas of knowledge listed above; have that task force report to the church on a regular basis; and plan a course of action. We welcome the opportunity to come to your church and help you get one started. Find alternative news sources. (At the left of the Hosea 4:6 Ministries pages, you'll find some of the websites available for those wanting to learn more about the issues affecting Christians and American Christian heritage. And, you can track many important stories by going to the News Briefs page on this website.) 7. Pray (James 5:13-18). Pray for revival (2 Chronicles 7:14). Pray for our leaders (Timothy 2:1-4). Pray that God will raise up Christian men and women to lead our nations, states, and communities (Deuteronomy 16:18-20). Pray for protection, for provision, and guidance. And when you’ve finished praying –- pray some more (1 Thessalonians 5:17). To make a secure, online donation to Hosea 4:6 Ministries, a 501(c)3 non-profit ministry,

and the Church cannot afford to turn a deaf ear. God's call for the Body of Christ includes His desire for Christians to become His instruments in the restoration of America's rich Christian heritage.
